The Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. Each country has quite a different personality, with different governments and different languages, Haiti speaking a variation of French, and the Dominican Republic speaking a variation of Spanish. The Dominican Republic is the richer of the two countries, being a well known tourist destination, particularly to North Americans who swap the cold northern winters with the tropical Caribbean sunshine that the Dominican Republic supplies in abundance.
The Dominican Republic really does have it all, with clear blue sea, white sandy beaches and the tropical weather. Don't be put of by stories of hurricanes as the Dominican Republic rarely gets them, and is prone to them no more than the southern states of the USA.
